Taraji P. Henson will headline the Women of Legend and Merit Awards March 24, at a Tennessee State University event supporting the university’s Women’s Center. Henson currently stars in Lee Daniel’s drama Empire as Cookie Lyon. She was nominated for an Academy award for Best Supporting Actress in 2008 (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and starred in the 2014 film From the Rough, portraying former TSU golf coach, Dr. Catana Starks, the first female coach to win an NCAA championship.

As the keynote speaker for the event—designed to provide younger women with positive role models, networking opportunities and resources—Henson will join local honorees from business, media, government, religion, education, and community service. The event is sold out; however, more information on the TSU Women’s Center is available online at or by calling 615-963-5481.
