Kelly Clarkson takes on new journey with children’s book

Imagine how soothing a lullaby written by a singer would sound. Now imagine if that singer happened to be a Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter and the original “American Idol.”

Kelly Clarkson recently added to her many accolades by becoming an author with her new children’s book, “River Rose the Magical Lullaby,” which features an original lullaby written and performed by the pop superstar herself.

Inspired by her daughter River Rose, Clarkson’s new picture book details an imaginative bedtime journey of her daughter’s first trip to the zoo. The book is filled with colorful imagines of dancing and frolicking animals that will no doubt have your child’s imagination running wild.

“When kids read ‘River Rose and the Magical Lullaby’ my hope is that it inspires their imagination and reminds them that they should always follow their dreams – no matter where they lead,”  Clarkson said in a press release about the book.

Much like her book, Clarkson’s journey to stardom has also been a magical one. A native Texan, Clarkson won the first season of “American Idol” in 2002, which immediately skyrocketed her songwriting career. Her double platinum debut album “Thankful” topped the Billboard 200 chart when it was released the following year.

Never shying away from being “miss independent,” Clarkson parted ways from “American Idol” management with her second album, “Breakaway,” which won the singer two Grammy Awards in 2004. Clarkson went on to win a third Grammy in 2011. Along with an impressive songwriting career, Clarkson has also starred in movies and TV shows like “From Justin to Kelly” and “Nashville.”

She’s released a total of six studio albums and sold 21 million albums around the world. Clarkson also released a certified platinum Christmas album in 2013.

In 2014, her journey took an entirely new path when Clarkson’s daughter, River Rose, was born. River Rose was the inspiration behind Clarkson’s book, which was published by HarperCollins. River Rose also gave Clarkson the opportunity to take the leap into becoming an author.

Clarkson grew up in Texas, but she now calls Nashville home and she recently read her new book and sung the lullaby to a lucky group of fans at Nashville bookstore Parnassus Books.

“Being a working mom is always really hard,” Clarkson told The Tennessean. “It’s really cool that this specific project, I get to bring kids along.”

“River Rose and the Magical Lullaby” is the first book written by Clarkson, and, according to the singer, it may not be her last. The singer recently told the Today Show that she is working on a book for her son, Remy. We can only imagine what the superstar will dream up next.

“River Rose and the Magical Lullaby” is available on Clarkson’s official site, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and wherever books are sold.
