On A High Note

Last day before Steeplechase

Whoa and behold! Steeplechase is upon us! Tomorrow, May 12, 2012 will mark the 71st run of the Iroquois Steeplechase. If you read yesterday’s blog, you are already aware of the lineup. Horses, owners and trainers are working out final details, and saying their prayers. (Well, I’m not sure the horses are praying, but you can bet the owners and trainers are.)

The shops and boutiques are still bristling with last-minute shoppers, seeking that “perfect hat,” linen outfit or springy sundress. Better hurry ladies – only 24 hours left! (photo in this blog compliments of Iroquois Steeplechase, and featuring hats from Gus Meyer) Hosts and hostesses alike are filled with excitement over hosting their own pre-steeplechase event and/or anxiously awaiting the long overdue tailgate party. Whatever your Steeplechase tradition, it will come alive again tomorrow.

Steeplechase race time / gates open at 8am, first race at 1pm
The first race starts at 1pm, but attendees are encouraged to arrive early, by 10am or 10:30am, as parking will be “a challenge” to say the least, with over 25,000 spectators expected.

Racegoers can expect several new things on race day, such as some of Nashville’s most popular food trucks serving food and drinks all day. So if you don’t have plans to tailgate or the chance to eat prior to the race, there will be plenty of food to choose from on the grounds.

AT&T races with good news through this year’s Steeplechase

And GREAT NEWS for AT & T wireless customers, AT&T announced their enhancement to wireless networks on race day by providing a “cell site on wheels,” (COW) which will allow thousands of racegoers who use AT&T as a service provider to get a boost in wireless service on race day. A feat, which as you know, can be daunting in the face of the more than 25,000 crowd that packs into Percy Warner on race day.

Steeplechase for kids

Also, if you bring kids, look for the “stick horse” race, sponsored by MIX 92.9, and will be held before the first race. You can visit http://www.mix929.com/ for more information.
