Born and raised in central Florida, he grew up singing and writing songs. He entered the reality television performance competition “The Next: Fame Is at Your Doorstep,” where he was mentored by artist John Rich of Big & Rich and ended up winning the competition. After that, he was able to sign a record deal with Warner Music Nashville and released a song called “Kiss You in the Morning,” which reached No. 1 on country airplay. The song also peaked at No. 10 on the US Country Charts and No. 15 on US Heat Charts. This week’s Sports & Entertainment Nashville’s Up and Coming spotlight is on Warner Music Nashville’s recording artist Michael Ray.
Michael Ray and John Rich co-wrote Big & Rich’s single “Run Away with You.” The song peaked at No. 2 on the US Hot Billboard 100 Singles and No. 11 on the US Billboard Country Airplay, giving Ray a big boost in the country music industry. Michael Ray is proud of his band, which consists of drummer Andrew Beselica, lead guitarist Lucas Chamberlain, bass guitarist Jonathan Sepulveda and guitarist Kurt Ozan. These guys are like brothers, and they have to always like each other, because they perform all over the United States together.
Michael Ray is currently on tour and performing in amphitheatres and stadiums from Florida to California. He will be opening for such acts as Darius Rucker and Dan & Shay on the “Good For A Good Time Tour.” He toured with Kip Moore on his “Wild Ones” tour in early 2015, then he toured with Brantley Gilbert on his Blackout Tour late 2015 and early 2016. These tours have helped Ray perfect his performance, preparing him for what is yet to come. Whether in the studio, in a songwriting session or on stage in front of thousands of people, he feels right at home in his world of music.
At the 2016 American Country Countdown Awards, Michael Ray was nominated for Breakthrough Male Artist of the Year. Though he didn’t win, the nomination was still a feather in his hat. He performed at the Grand Ole Opry recently, which is always exciting for any country artist. He will go far in country music, and he has a great start under his belt.
