Sandra Lynn has a Christmas wish for you

Rising star Sandra Lynn hails from sunny Southern California, so she’s never experienced the thrill and beauty of a white Christmas. But that hardly stops her from beaming like a harvest moon at the very mention of the holiday season. “I love this time of year,” says the vivacious singer, seated inside the offices of her Nashville publicist. “And it’s really fun when you have a holiday song to go with it.”

The tune she’s referring to is “My Christmas Wish for You,” an original holiday number written by Grammy-winning songwriters Linda Thompson and pop star Richard Marx. The song is currently in release along with an accompanying music video, which features actual home footage of Lynn’s family. Lynn came across the tune through her friendship with Thompson. “Linda has been a good family friend for years, and I am such an admirer of hers,” Lynn begins. “She has written so many great hits for different legends. One of my favorites is ‘My Grown-Up Christmas List.’ I wanted to go in with a Christmas song for this year and I reached out to Linda. This was at the end of last summer but you have to start looking early if you want to get the best ones. I asked her if she happened to have any Christmas songs in her catalog. She had this song in the batch and she said that it was written by her and Richard Marx. You can’t get better than that!”

The song’s message of spreading kindness and love throughout the world resonated with Lynn. “The first time I heard it, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is such a beautiful song.’ Just the whole message of the song is so universal,” she smiles. “It’s saying that this is my wish for you every day of the year. It’s something you could hear at any time, not just Christmas. It just touched me and I asked if I could go in and cut this.” Lynn, by the way, is the only artist to record the tune, a veritable feather in the cap for the young singer. She got the chance to premiere it last year at the Christmas 4 Kids concert at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Fans are certain to get a warm seasonal glow with the music video for the song. Portions of the video consist of actual home movie clips taken by Lynn’s parents when she was a youngster growing up in California. The family, thankfully for her, had hung onto the footage as a keepsake. “The directors took the footage and they picked the moments to put into the video,” Lynn says. “I just started crying when I saw it. They used a shot of me singing with my dad. And they show my dog and some family members who are no longer with us. It just hit me so hard – showing those home memories and those moments of joy and excitement.”

As it’s the tine of year for giving, Lynn has embraced that spirit with a couple of events in Nashville, centering around the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Ronald McDonald House, as many know, provides an affordable home-away-from-home for families with critically ill children who are hospitalized. Early in December, Lynn visited the Nashville Ronald McDonald House and performed a small, intimate show for the families. She also joined the popular Song Suffragettes show at the Listening Room Cafe for a special evening benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville. To put an extra bow on the season, Lynn sang “My Christmas Wish for You” at the Nashville Christmas Parade.

“Visiting the Ronald McDonald House was new for me this year,” Lynn says. “I just think it’s really nice that they’re giving parents these opportunities to be close to their children. The Song Suffragettes show was designed to bring attention to this organization and I was very honored to be part of that.”

Since 2018, Lynn has been the creative force behind a musical chronicle, centering around a young couple’s struggles to save their relationship. She kicked off the storyline with her debut album Fight and continued the plot through her songs “Lose the War,” “Am I Just Dreaming” and “I Think of You.” She’s aiming to craft more songs for that project. “I have been writing a lot,” Lynn says. “We’ll probably go into the studio early next year.” Lynn will also be busy working on additional material for release. “It’s fun to dive into new projects,” she notes with a wide grin. “It exposes people to a broad range of my material. We’ll also be hitting the road and working on getting tour dates for next year.”

In the meantime, she can’t wait to celebrate the Christmas season with her husband, splitting the holiday between visits to her family in California and his folks in Oregon. The family traditions include plenty of her favorite holiday movies. “Oh gosh, we watch ‘A Christmas Story’ every chance we get,” she laughs. “We love ‘[National Lampoon’s] Christmas Vacation.’ And ‘Love Actually,’ which is a Christmas movie, is one of my favorites. We just like to keep the spirit going.”
