S&E Nashville holiday weekend recommendations

While there is always so much going on in Music City, this weekend boasts an especially wide variety of activities. From a costume-clad 5K to an incredible performance by the Nashville Symphony and Chorus, here is a small sample of events to check out over the next few days.

NIGHT MARKET

While the Nashville Farmers Market normally only operates during day hours, this Friday marks the December night market, in addition to a holiday event. Check out goods from some of your favorite market merchants before indulging in a delightful meal with your fellow attendees, enjoy Christmas carols and holiday cocktails around the tree – this month’s signature concoction is the Chocolate Peppermint Martini – along with always-on-hand local beer and wine from Arrington Vineyards. Plus, the big man in red will be making his last appearance this year at the market!

RUDOLPH’S RED NOSE RUN

Trade in your running gear for your best holiday costume as you race across the city in the city’s most festive run. Whether you’re walking or running, you’re sure to take in a unique view of the city, starting from the Titans Nissan Stadium and heading down Broadway and ultimately crossing the pedestrian bridge.

NASHVILLE FLEA MARKET

Though it usually comes to town the fourth weekend of every month, December finds the Nashville Flea Market visiting a week early. Finish up your holiday shopping at one of the best flea markets in the country that features several hundred vendors from all around the US showcasing a variety of goods. The theme this month is “Down to the Wire.”

When: Fri., Dec. 18, 12pm – 5pm; Sat., Dec. 19, 7am – 5pm; Sun., Dec. 20, 7am – 4pm

HANDEL’S MESSIAH

The Nashville Symphony Orchestra and Chorus come together to perform this stunning composition, creating an incomparable holiday tradition with a performance of Messiah by acclaimed composer, Handel. The walls of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center will fill with the exquisite sound of Handel’s masterpiece about the story of Jesus. It is sure to be a holiday event to remember

THE ORNAMENTS IN CONCERT

It wouldn’t be the holiday season without “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and local combo, The Ornaments, love the special just as much as you do. Tomorrow morning, the group will be at the Belcourt Theatre performing Vince Guaraldi’s soundtrack to the classic film. The Ornaments will play the Christmas record live from start to finish, along with a series of guest soloists bringing instruments ranging from a tin whistle to the accordion.
