Jana Kramer began her career in entertainment as an actress best known for the television series “One Tree Hill.” However, television wasn’t where she wanted to focus her career, so in 2012 she signed a record deal with Elektra Records and released her single called “Why Ya Wanna.”
She was born in Rochester Hills, Michigan, made her way to Hollywood and eventually moved on to Nashville, ready to break through the country music scene. The stage is now set for one of Nashville’s newest country music artist to be launched into superstardom.
Although Kramer has only released two studio albums to country radio, she has made some good headway. Her song “Why Ya Wanna” reached number three on the Billboard Charts and that same album reached the top five on the Billboard album chart. She won Top New Female Artist on the ACM awards in 2013 and has been nominated many times over for ACM and CMT music awards.
The first single from her current “Thirty One” album, titled “I Got the Boy,” entered the Billboard charts in at No. 92 and has been climbing ever since. Her album hit the Billboard Top Country Albums chart at No. 3, and No. 10 in the Billboard 200.
Prior to Kramer making her way to Nashville she was working as an actress and doing pretty well for herself. In 2002 she landed her first acting debut in an independent horror film.
From there however, she worked her way into much more popular shows such as the soap opera, “All My Children” and a series of television shows including “CSI: NY,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Private Practice.”
In 2009 she landed her biggest role, starring as Alex Dupre in “One Tree Hill.” While working on “One Tree Hill” several of Kramer’s songs were featured, further fueling the fire of her desire to pursue her music career all the more.
But she hasn’t given up on the acting side of things. You might recognize her from the Nationwide Insurance commercial where she tumbles through the window of a burned out apartment.
Still, Kramer says her “heart and soul is in singing.” And producer, Scott Hendricks notes that Kramer has her own sound and that in a plethora of singer/songwriters, she has no problem standing out, in part, due to the way she phrases things.
On “Thirty One” there is another little surprise you might consider a big feather in Kramer’s cap when Steven Tyler appears with her singing on the song titled “Bullet.” The song was written by Kramer and Marti Frederiksen – who has produced some of Aerosmith’s music and so Tyler heard the song and the word is that he liked it so well he wanted to collaborate.
So Tyler did his vocals from L.A. and Kramer recorded hers here in Nashville. And for those of you who haven’t heard, Tyler is also making the move into country music.
“Thirty One” is an album that Kramer describes as 100% her. Though she admits that she didn’t write all the songs on the album because she finds that many times other songwriters can write what she has lived through better than she has.
However she still feels every song has captured who she is, all that she’s been through and stands for.
And her personal life? Well, after a couple of “false starts,” Kramer says she is in a “healthy relationship” and happy with her new hubby, Michael Caussin, who played three seasons for the Buffalo Bills before signing with the Washington Redskins where injuries cut his career short in 2014.
Still, Caussin has plenty to look forward to – as he and Kramer are expecting their first child, a little girl, in February.
So you might say lots of things are “Up & Coming” about Jana Kramer. She is a rising star, has a new family, a new album that she is feeling great about and a ton of fans who are waiting anxiously to see what Kramer’s next ambitious moves will be.
