While there are numerous breakout female artists taking country music by storm, we’ve got another one to add to the ever-growing list – Lauren Alaina.
“American Idol” enthusiasts will remember her from season 10 of the reality singing show where she was runner up to Scotty McCreery.
Since her “Idol” days, the Georgia native released her debut album “Wildflower” in 2011, which hit number five on the Billboard 200 chart, but has remained a low profile musically after undergoing vocal chord surgery last year.
But the young singer is back and ready to make a name for herself as she gears up for a new album, which fans can get a preview of with her new EP that was released earlier this month, featuring five original songs – all of which were co-written by Alaina.
The EP features her latest single “Next Boyfriend,” a bouncy track about young love, demonstrating a matured and polished sound from the “Idol” starlet.
Alaina revealed in an interview with Taste of Country that she “worked really hard” on the EP, writing more than 200 songs for it, including one with fellow breakout artist Meghan Trainor titled “Road Less Traveled,” with the album itself featuring 12 tracks.
And while “Idol” fans already know her, college football fans are about to love her just as much. Her song “History” is not only featured on the EP, is also being used as a promotional piece for ESPN’s college football season. Along with Imagine Dragons, Alaina is the only other artist selected to record a song for the season.
“For a Southern girl, college football is everything,” Alaina says. “I am so pumped to have my song used for ESPN’s college football coverage.”
But if a new EP, impending album and the opportunity to hear her song on ESPN weren’t enough for fans of the singer, they can also indulge in her weekly webisode series “Sealed with a Kiss” on My Country Nation where she gives fans advice and shares her opinion on a variety of topics including personal pet peeves, her favorite fashion faux paus as a 16-year-old and comments you can only make to your best friends.
Plus, the soon-to-be-21-year-old (her birthday is Nov. 8) was recently voted “Country Music’s Hottest Bachelorette” by “Nash Country Weekly,” in addition to be being named Rdio’s Nashville Rising Artist for the month of October.
Alaina will be opening for Bobby Bones’ band, The Raging Idiots, with fellow up and coming artist Lindsey Ell in Washington D.C. and Richmond, VA mid November, following in the footsteps of previous opening acts like Kelsea Ballerini and Cam. Alaina can add The Raging Idiots to the list of acts she’s opened for, including country stars Jason Aldean and Sugarland.
As she joins the roster of Nashville’s fast rising stars and creates what is sure-to-be outstanding album, we have no doubt Lauren Alaina will make her mark on country music.
